Catholic Recovery Ministries Musings.

Hi. I'm Shanti.
I am blessed to be in recovery. My recovery date is 1/31/99. It is for me one of the most important dates in my life. I owe my life to the 12 Step program.
This fellowship was started by Blessed Mother Mary. She nudged me ever so gently into starting this Ministry.
It's not something I wanted to do, but when Jesus's Mom, our Mother says to get to it, we obey as Catholics.
My husband also is part of this story. He became Catholic and Co Founder this Fellowship all at the same time. Great stuff.
His date in recovery is 7/7/91.

We have learned, and relearned so much about Recovery since Catholic Recovery Ministries.
Did you know Bill W (CO founder of AA) sponsor was a Jesuit Priest? And influenced 12 and 12 book? And much of his writings.

Did you know the St Francis Prayer that's in the Big book is Catholic?
Catholics believe in going to Confession. List our sins, and then confess them. Step 4 and 5.
These are just a few tidbits of info that lace together 12 Step Recovery and Catholicism.
There's so much more. We will share this weekly. CRM Musings.
Pray for all the sick and suffering in and out of the Rooms of Recovery.

Sinead O'connor Tribute

It's been a bit since I could post anything about Sinead. I have followed her since the beginning. All her struggles I would pray for her. I totally understood her. I felt her loneliness, her confusion and anger towards the church. Her emotional pain was huge. I get it. Her Artistry was heavenly. Yes she did things against the Church. I'm not agreeing with her actions against the Church, but she was angry. There was truth in the cover up of the Church. The Vatican and the Church is full of Saints and Sinners. Truth. 93% of Catholics aren't doing the Catholic Life. I want to be the 7%.
I also left the Church and became a Buddhist Fellowship leader. I get her becoming attached to another religion, her becoming Muslim. But the truth is I always believed in the Jewish God and my Ashkenazi roots brought me back to Catholicism.
But without Recovery I wouldn't even get to share this. Thank you God for Recovery helped me deal with life on life's terms.
Back to Sinead,
I believe she's in Heaven with her son and loved ones. Rest in Everlasting Peace
And we pray for all those suffering in the gripe of Addiction and or Mental Health Illness.

12 Step Prayers

12 Step Prayers – A Prayer For Each Step

Wherever you are on your recovery journey, God is with us always!

First Step Prayer

Dear Lord,
I admit that I am powerless over my addiction.
I admit that my life is unmanageable when I try to control it.
Help me this day to understand
The true meaning of powerlessness.
Remove from me all denial of my addiction.

Second Step Prayer

Heavenly Father,
I know in my heart that only you can restore me to sanity.
I humbly ask that you remove all twisted thought &
Addictive behavior from me this day.
Heal my spirit & restore in me a clear mind.

Third Step Prayer

God,
I offer myself to Thee
To build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt.
Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.
Take away my difficulties,
That victory over them may bear witness
To those I would help of Thy Power,
Thy love and Thy way of life,
May I do Thy will always!

Fourth Step Prayer

Dear God,
It is I who has made my life a mess.
I have done it, but I cannot undo it.
My mistakes are mine and
I will begin a searching and fearless moral inventory.
I will write down my wrongs
But I will also include that which is good.
I pray for the strength to complete the task.

Fifth Step Prayer

Dear God,
My inventory has shown me who I am,
Yet I ask for Your help
In admitting my wrongs to another person and to You.
Assure me, and be with me, in this Step,
For without this Step I cannot progress in my recovery.
With Your help, I can do this, and I do it.

Sixth Step Prayer

Dear God,
I am ready for Your help
In removing from me the defects of character
Which I now realize are an obstacle to my recovery.
Help me to continue being honest with myself and
Guide me toward spiritual and mental health.

Seventh Step Prayer

God Almighty,
I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad.
I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character
Which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows.
Grant me strength, as I go out from here to do your bidding.

Eighth Step Prayer

God,
I ask Your help in making my list of all those I have harmed.
I will take responsibility for my mistakes and
Be forgiving to others as You are forgiving to me.
Grant me the willingness to begin my restitution.
This I pray.

Ninth Step Prayer

Jesus,
I pray for the right attitude to make my amends,
Being ever mindful not to harm others in the process.
I ask for Your guidance in making indirect amends.
Most important, I will continue to make amends
By staying abstinent, helping others and
Growing in spiritual progress.

Tenth Step Prayer

I pray I may continue:
To grow in understanding and effectiveness;
To take daily spot check inventories of myself;
To correct mistakes when I make them;
To take responsibility for my actions;
To be ever aware of my negative and
Self-defeating attitudes and behaviors;
To keep my willfulness in check;
To always remember I need Your help;
To keep love & tolerance of others as my code; and
To continue in daily prayer how I can best serve You,
Lord God Almighty.

Eleventh Step Prayer

God Almighty,
I pray to keep my connection with You
Open and clear from the confusion of daily life.
Through my prayers and meditation I ask especially for
Freedom from self-will, rationalization, and wishful thinking.
I pray for the guidance of correct thought and positive action.
Your will God, not mine, be done.

Twelfth Step Prayer

Dear God,
My spiritual awakening continues to unfold.
The help I have received I shall pass on and give to others,
Both in and out of the Fellowship.
For this opportunity I am grateful.
I pray most humbly to continue walking day by day
On the road of spiritual progress.
I pray for the inner strength and wisdom
To practice the principles of this way of life in all I do and say.
I need You, my friends, and the program every hour of every day.
This is a better way to live.

Feast Day of Saint Maximilian Kolbe

Feast Day of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. The Patron Saint of Addicts and Prisoners.
If you don't know of him.
Maximilian Maria Kolbe was a Polish Catholic priest and Franciscan friar who volunteered to die in place of a man named Franciszek Gajowniczek in the German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II. Yes Catholic Priests we're taken to The Death Camps. His story is so much more than this though.
Pray for us Saint Maximilian Kolbe.
Pray for all in the disease and grip of Addiction.

Freedom From Addiction Prayers

Thanks to Father Ken from The Basilica of St Paul in Daytona Beach he gifted ohr group with these Prayer Cards.
The font was very small so we enlarged and made our own and laminated them. We hand them out freely.
It is a very very powerful recovery prayer.

What is Catholic Recovery Ministries???
